Client FAQ – First-Time Electrology Patients

What is electrology?

Electrology is a safe, proven method of permanent hair removal. It works by delivering a tiny amount of energy into the hair follicle to destroy the growth cells, preventing future hair growth. It is the only FDA-recognized method of permanent hair removal and is effective for all hair colors and skin types.

Does electrology hurt?

Discomfort varies from person to person and by treatment area. Most clients describe the sensation as a quick heat or pinch. Many find it very tolerable, especially with proper hydration, breathing techniques, and pain management options. Over time, most clients say it becomes much easier as they become accustomed to the sensation.

How many treatments will I need?

Electrology is a process, not a one-time treatment. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are necessary to treat each follicle at the right stage of growth.

Most clients require consistent treatments over 12–24 months, depending on:

  • Area being treated

  • Hair density

  • Hormonal influences (PCOS, menopause, etc.)

  • Treatment consistency

Some clients with severe or hormonally driven hair growth may need longer treatment plans.

How long is each session?

Sessions vary based on your needs and availability. Appointments may range from 15 minutes to 1 hour. We will design a schedule that fits your lifestyle and treatment goals.

Why do I need to grow the hair out?

Hair must be visible for effective treatment. A minimum of three days of growth is recommended so each hair can be properly treated. Avoid plucking, waxing, threading, or depilatory creams between sessions, as these remove the hair root and delay progress.

Can I shave between sessions?

Yes — shaving or trimming is usually allowed. Please ask your electrologist for guidance based on your treatment area.

Will my skin look normal afterward?

Temporary redness, swelling, or tiny scabs can occur. These are normal reactions and typically resolve within a few hours to a few days. Proper aftercare helps your skin heal quickly and beautifully.

Is electrology safe?

Yes. When performed by a trained professional, electrology is extremely safe and effective. Proper technique, sterile equipment, and high-quality aftercare minimize risks and promote healthy skin.

Does electrology cause scarring?

When performed correctly and followed by proper aftercare, electrology does not cause scarring. Picking, scratching, or sun exposure during healing increases the risk of pigmentation changes or marks.

Can electrology treat hormonal hair growth?

Absolutely. Electrology is especially effective for clients with PCOS, menopause-related hair growth, and other hormonal imbalances. While hormonal conditions may create new hair growth over time, electrology permanently removes each treated follicle.

How soon will I see results?

You will notice smoother skin immediately after treatment. Over time, hair will grow back finer and sparser until it no longer returns. Consistency is key to achieving lasting results.

Are you able to treat hair on the whole body?

We are able to treat hair on most of the body. Due to insurance coverage limitations, procedures involving the nasal area, ear canals, or pubic region are not permitted. However, all other parts of the body can be treated at Elevate Electrology.
